My family has been raising dogs for over 26 years.  I love purebred, quality dogs so much that I started raising them myself 18 years ago.  Dachshunds became my breed of choice about 10 years ago and I have been raising these wonderful pets ever since.
My adult dogs are kept in outside runs unless the weather is bad, and at that time I have a huge kennel room that is equipped with heating and air conditioning.  They are fed a premium adult dog food, as well as some very important nutritional supplements, are dewormed on a regular basis, given yearly vaccinations and are on monthly heartworm preventative.  They have a large exercise areas where they can run and play to there hearts content.  Some of my retired breeders are kept here with me to live out there lives, whereas others are adopted by good loving families that want a great pet.  I crate train and housebreak my dogs and allow them lots of interaction with children and other animals.
I bring my pregnant mothers in two weeks before they are due to whelp.  I offer high quality food for them at all times and keep them on vitamins.
All of my puppies are home raised and well socialized.  They are born in my home under my supervision and when necessary, my veterinarian.  When the puppies are about 2 weeks old they are moved into the nursery.  Then at about 4 weeks, I start offering them the same high quality puppy food that their mother's eat.  When they are eating well I start the process of weaning.  I do not let them go to there new homes until they are eating really well and are sufficiently weaned, have been dewormed,  and have had at least one vaccination.
I really feel like having one dachshund is like having one potato chip, "No one wants just one!".  They are lovable, playful, good lap dogs and love sleeping under the covers.
So do yourself a favor and, "Get a long little doggy!!", from me.  You won't regret it!!
